[mrtg] installation help Mac OS X mrtg/rrdtool

Help!

1. darwin ports: md5 error can't install- it worked in january but  
not in february????

2. fink: installs older version of mrtg works, but not with rrdtool

ERROR: Can only restore version >= 2 (Not 0001). Dump your old rrd  
using a current rrdtool dump

3. manually installed newest version of mrtg (everything but mrtg  
installs ok):

checking gd.h usability... yes
checking gd.h presence... yes
checking for gd.h... yes

** Ooops, one of many bad things happened:

    a)  You don't have the GD library installed. (not true!!! I do  
have gd installed with all the variables)

Any assistance very much appreciated.
