Bounto,
MRTG gathers its information by SNMP queries but it can also use the output of any script that feeds MRTG with the information.
If your device supoorts SNMP you have to check wich counters are available, but in general it should be possible to monitor physical ports with no IP-adresses.
The quickest way to check which counters are available is to run cfgmaker against the device you want to monitor. This will give you a basic (and ready to use) MRTG configfile with all network interfaces. For other statistics like CPU usage, memory usage, temperature etc. you can search the archive for templates or build your own.
HTH,
Jan.

Subject: [mrtg] Layer 2 physical ethernet port
Hello, All
As it name implied, MRTG, Multi Router Traffic Grapher. Does it only works on routers and layer 3 IP interfaces? Can it also works on layer 2 physical ethernet ports with no IP addresses?
What can I use to gather traffic at layer 2 physical ethernet ports like what MRTG does?
Any idea is very much appreciated, thanks.
