Have you looked at Smokeping? Particularly the DNS probe?

[mrtg] Graph DNS times / timeouts?
09/02/2006 01:02
PM
Ok, I've googled and I'm probably googling the wrong wording, because
all I'm finding is info on problems with mrtg and DNS, but I'm
looking for a way in mrtg (or other suggestions - OS/X box) to graph
or 'monitor' DNS failures.
Basically, I'm having frequent DNS failures. I'd like to be able to
get something to show to my ISP.
Any suggestions?
Would like something to show them.. Even something simple like just
the failures, ie:
DNS resolution for www.site.com failed: 10:32 PM
Thanks.
Evan
