[mrtg] what does the graphics which is made by mrtg mean?

  hi, i am a flash-man using mrtg software. the problem is that the monitored
graphics confused me.
As the monitored result showing in the htm file, could you please tell me
what is the meaning of the column "average" ? until now, i konw that "max"
column means the the max speed in/out in one day.
