With a few restrictions: yes, you can monitor anything.

1) It has to be "some value over some time"
2) You'll have to monitor two values (although they can be the same)
3) You'll have to find a way for mrtg to collect the data

You could use snmp to collect the data from your computer. You could
also use the external program interface. Both ways are described in the
documentation.

HD usage is **not** a regular counter such as ethernet traffic. You need
to know this as you have to tell mrtg about this. It is a GAUGE value
and how to set this, is also in the docs. The same is true for memory.
Please be aware that for memory a kilobyte is 1024 bytes, this, again,
you have to tell to mrtg because for network traffic this is not true
(kilo means 1000).
