Hi Paul,<br><br>Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I'm using rrdtool-1.4.2 mrtg-2.16.2<br><br>Everything is being created from scratch (new). I set up an mrtg.cfg file for a router, and ran mrtg against the cfg for the first time. MRTG created the rrd databases for the interfaces. The rrd databases created have a heartbeat of 600 and step of 60. My question is, should the heartbeat be less? <br>
<br>Here is a dump of the first part of the database definition.<br><br><rrd><br> <version>0003</version><br> <step>60</step> <!-- Seconds --><br> <lastupdate>1259955934</lastupdate> <!-- 2009-12-04 13:45:34 CST --><br>

<div>It says:</div>
<p>Note that unless you are using rrdtool you can not set Interval to less than 5 minutes. If you are using rrdtool you can set interval in the format </p>
<div> </div>
<div>Are you using RRDTool? If using log files, the interval can not be set to less than 5 minutes. Also, when using RRDTool, you need to set the interval before the creation of the rrd, otherwise no matter how you change it, the heartbeat will stay the same.</div>
