Regarding the messages with this subject:

When RRDtool normalizes data onto datapoints, something may be wrong.

time n*T+7 a sample is taken, time (n+1)*T+7 the next sample is taken.

The interval from n*T to (n+1)*T is set to unknown as the calculated
rate is way too high.  This same rate is in the first 7 seconds of the
next interval (n+1)T to (n+2)T and is not discarded.

IMHO this is arguable, the rate is to high, not the counter value.
