It does.. i can send you an rrd file to exhibit the problem
if you want.  i think that somehow, --units-exponents must be
throwing things off, but i couldn't really tell how.

you're right that i end up with graphs that have too many grid
lines, but that's better than hanging :-)
Hmm, and actually, it seems i still get failed graphs.
