[rrd-developers] Strange Y labels in 1.2.9 with --alt-autoscale

After upgrading to version 1.2.9 I noticed some strange behavior in the
Y-labels. I have a database with the amount of free diskspace, and plot
it as number of bytes with base 1024. The graph correctly converts the
bytes to Gigabytes, but the Y labels unfortunately lack the precision I
earlier saw in version 1.0.x, when the change in diskspace is rather
small.

If I plot over an interval when the free diskspace has varied, e.g.,
between 69.99 Gb and 70.41 Gb, I get five Y-labels all saying "70 G". It
also looks like the Y-labels are not properly aligned to even numbers,
but are placed at a completely random offset.

Looking at the code in rrd_graph.c did not immediately explain this
behavior, as the logic involved seemed rather complex...

Anyone have some further insight into this, and perhaps a fix?
