I think we've talked about this before and we all agreed that adding
some special syntax to the CDEF options is the way to go. I initially
submitted the patch merely as a request for comments (which I got) and
simply sent it along with the rest of the rebased patches. Don't worry
about it much, I hope to get around to adding support for this “the
right way” soonish.
