See also MRTG. MRTG can use RRDTOOL.  Use this functionality
as a basis to start from.  Then, read the rrdtutorial from head
to tail and try the examples.  This should be enough to start
with.  Make sure you understand the different roles of network
monitoring:

- A device with some counters (your cisco)
     with SNMP these counters are read and feed to
- A data collector (rrdtool)
     which stores and manipulates the data so it can be graphed with
- A grapher (mrtg)
