What are you monitoring?

For normal ethernet graphs, there should not be a huge peak when a
device cannot be polled.  There should be an unknown in the database.

Please resubmit your question, this time with details such as:
- rrdtool version number
- type of polling (ethernet, ping times etc.)
- a **small** portion from "rrdtool dump database.rrd"
so that the list members know what's happening
