It is not too hard:  you have to understand that start and end are
not fixed values and thus are meaningless by themselves.

start+0s is the same as start.  Therefore, my first comment still
applies...

and rrdtool complains.

Try using "now".  Now is a known point in time, "--start now-1d"
means ``1 day ago''.

"--start now-2d --end start+1d" is valid.
