In the flowscan distribution, there is a ADD_TX_RX script.
This script calls another script that adds 2 DS.
You will obviously need to adapt those scripts to your needs.

The only way I know of is to use rrdtool dump, then the editor of
your choise, and rrdtool restore. When you go this way make sure
to understand the way everything is specified.
Suggestion: create two (small) databases. One has 1 DS, one has 2.
Dump both to xml and look for the differences.

Why does it need to be in the same file? Granted, it can be handy but why
does it *need* to be in the same file?
