On Solaris, the C compiler isn't bundled; you have to pay lots of money
for it.
The obvious alternative is to use gcc, which is downloadable in
pkg format from http://www.sunfreeware.com/
That works fine, I compiled rrbtool yesterday on Solaris with gcc
without any problems :-) Even using /usr/ccs/bin/make worked for
the standard stuff (only when passing DESTDIR etc. to make it install
in a subdirectory did the standard make fail to do the expected).
