In that case: don't skip the measurements.  Graph relevant time
ranges both for "normal" work and for overnight backups.

You want to know if/when the network is a bottleneck and you want
to show that money spent on the network is or is not going to make
the backup any faster.  Sometimes people start whining about that
slow network and then you can show that they really need to buy
a faster machine/disk/whatever before you're going to give them
a connection at a faster rate
