OK, I must admit, smokeping looks pretty good - but I see it as more of a 
network tool than a system tool ... IOW, can it be used to measure system 
uptimes instead of just network latency?

something along the lines of cron-based rups keeping track of how long a 
system has been up and noting when it's inaccessible storing it all in one 
big, happy database for rrdtool charting ...

Any ideas?
