Remember that the daily rra is an average of more than one primary data point.

Consider this scenario:
- The hourly graph uses 1 minute samples 
- The daily graph uses 5 minute samples
- The 1 minute samples alternate between 0 and 50

In this scenario the daily graph will show samples of 20 ( =(0+50+0+50+0)/5 ).

You can define a max rra instead of an average rra if that's more to your likings.

having been away for a week i have found on my return that the "daily" graph
does not reflect any of the data of the "hourly" graph on some interfaces.
am i right in assuming that these graphs are constructed from the same rrd's? 
if so, what could account for this anomaly?
