This *is* the result.  I told to >>check<< the current options for
the database.  IOW do not show us the create statement, show us the
output of rrdtool tune.

The properties are:  DERIVE, heartbeat 600, min 0, max unlimited
This seems to be OK, apart from the unlimited of course.

This only displays.  To alter a RRD you *do* have to specify options.
Do so, then check your modifications by using rrdtool tune without
options again.

>  rrdtool restore interface.xml interface.rrd -r 

This is correct, you may want to use another target and verify the
results before you destroy your live data ...
