[rrd-users] ERROR: could not lock RRD

Hi 

I am a new RRD user. I wanted to try out a couple of examples to get
into the grove but my very first try failed :( with the following
message when I try to update.  Any suggestions?

[subraman at kappa-14: ~/guigems/rrd] rrdtool update test.rrd
1068136875:123
ERROR: could not lock RRD
