Philippe,

I have not done the math, but it could be that you are assuming
that mrtg assumes that with gauge the value is interpolated as if
the individual supporting points were connected by a sloping line
...

this is NOT the case

rrdtool assumes a GAUGE value to remain the same from one update to
the next.
