At the risk of saying "me too" and bailing (an evil listserve crime), I can
offer the fact that RRDTool compiles very nicely under Cygwin. I use the
Cygwin exe's when I require a working "rrdtool restore" and I use the
precompiled binaries for all other functions.
Its an ugly hack, and it means you can't develop rrdtool further but it
solves my MRTG issues. If you do work on this on your own I'll be more than
happy to alpha-test any configuration scripts etc
