there is a pretty good chance I'm not reading this right, so bear with me for a sec. 
AFAICT, TOTAL only works on VDEF statements.  VDEFs define variables with single values
that may be used in other RPN expressions.  

Something like "VDEF:t24=temp,24,GT,TOTAL" is simply not valid.  It certainly isn't
accepted.  The manpage does say that VDEF accepts an RPN expression, but I have my
doubts.
