This is probably what you do right now:

(hardcoded stacked areas).

What if you use hard limits a la "--lower-limit 0 --upper-limit 40" possibly even with 
--rigid ?  Basically to stop any scaling.

I know with absolute certainty that my sensors only return between -40 and +85C, and also
that the actually returned values will always be 0 < temp < 40.
