[rrd-users] adding a datasource - sanity check

All,

I've worked out the following scheme for adding a datasource to an existing rrd:

rrdddump >xml
massage xml, adding DS and a new value=NaN for the new DS. 
rrdrestore xml >newrrd

Sanity check - is this the right way or is there a better/easier/more correct way? 

Sanity check - as the data obviously didn't exist before, I'm not really too
bothered with the contents of the archives etc. - is NaN the right value to use or should
I just use 0.0e+0?
