Ralf,

the average you get is the average of the data after it has been
made 'fit' for display if this is causing confusion, you may
calculate the data externally using rrdtool fetch for example and
add it into the graph ....

for all normal cases the average will not be affected noticably by
this. Except for one case ... if you build the 'average' of a 'max'
RRA ... since rrdtool graph will use max for consolidating the data
(makeing it fit for display) before giving it to the average
function you defined ...
