Just a guess from a recent escapee of solaris/compiler/perl/perl_module
hell (which is something like the 14th circle of hell IIRC):  is it
possible the native perl that comes with solaris is causing the problem?
I had a *horrible* time trying to get anything worthwhile installed on
top of the native perl & ended up installing my own perl & stuff.  The
perl on solaris doesn't seem to come with all the "goodies" you get when
you install it yourself.  However I am on Sol9 so that may have changed
when they moved to 10.  Like I said, just a guess. :)
