I monitor a network of nodes using "rstat". I have an rstat daemon on
each node, and
on the monitoring console I use perl Rstat::Client module to poll each node.
Rstat gives CPU, disk, swap, and network counters. A quick CGI and my boss
is impressed ;)

Thanks to RRD its a breeze :)
