[rrd-users] Cannot fetch the last update? (WAS [mrtg] Re: Why all the NaNs?)

Rrdtool 1.2.11
On Solaris 8

Switching this now to rrdtool list. Hope I'm not driving anyone nuts, but
I'm narrowing down the issue.

It seems I cannot fetch my last update.  I noticed the symptom originally in
MRTG debugging out, but it can be duplicated from the command line.

Last update:

	s00c161# rrdtool last /data1/mrtg/OPS/ssa-cam-ops-w24e03_1_cpu.rrd

	1137698155

Now I try to fetch the last update (this is what mrtg seems to be doing, see
debug output below):

	s00c161# rrdtool fetch /data1/mrtg/OPS/ssa-cam-ops-w24e03_1_cpu.rrd
AVERAGE -s 1137698155 -e 1137698155
	                            ds0                 ds1
 
	1137698400: NaN NaN
	s00c161# 

What is going on here?  Here is the debugging output from mrtg:

I feel I must be missing something obvious.

Some more background as I'm sitting here thinking about this and trying to
figure it out.

Turns out there *is* data going in there.  However, why can rrdtool fetch
not fetch it out?  It seems that rrdtool fetch always gets NaN.

I'm trying to turn on Threshold checking, but the threshold checking uses
the value fetched from the rrd file.  If rrdfetch returns NaN then the
threshold checking returns the wrong result.

Suggestions anyone?
