Yes I can confirm it works:

s00c161# rrdtool last  /data/mrtg/OPS/ssa-cam-ops-w24e03_1_cpu.rrd 
s00c161# rrdtool fetch /data/mrtg/OPS/ssa-cam-ops-w24e03_1_cpu.rrd AVERAGE
-s 1138716980 -e 1138716980
                            ds0                 ds1
1138717200: 5.5933333333e+01 5.5933333333e+01

Depending on how your rrd files are configured and how often you are
collecting data, you may have to wait a bit until you see results.
