[rrd-users] recipe for background for alternate months in a year graph

Is there a recipe for shading the background for alternate 
months grey, like there is for hours in the day graphs? 
Presumably I could calculate 30.5 days a month and it would 
be hard to tell the difference (except for Feb). However I 
was wondering if there was an exact recipe.
