Thanks a lot Martin,

based from the calculations you provided below and compared to my numbers, It seems mrtg creates 4 slices automatically daily, weekly, monthly, yearly. so we are fine regarding rotation. Thanks a lot for your help ... appreciated!!!

You have set the rotation interval by defining the rrdfile. I could try and explain it here but the website http://www.rrdtool.org does a much better job at it. 
Just look for the RRA definitions, you will have one or more lines like these:
RRA:tag:0.5:1:300 
RRA:tag:0.5:3:3500 
RRA:TAG:0.5:288:365

I configured mrtg to log to rrd database and i am generating graphs succesfully.
however i read that the database will be rotated automatically... how can we set the rotation interval? is it time based or related to the database size?
