[rrd-users] can timestamp be floats?

I am processing some trace data with timestamps. I converted the timestamp
into seconds (some of them not whole number, say 5.3 second instead of
round it up to 5 second). I am new to RRD, so my dumb question is: 

 

Is it valid to use 5.3 to specify time when you pass it to -start? Or it
must be whole number 5 get pass to -start?
