[rrd-users] RRDtool Beginner

So being a beginner I have worked through all available examples on the 
web, those by Corey Goldberg were by far the most helpful, what I would 
like to do now is work with my Linux computer and measure something in 
real time to create my very first RRD. I am working with the rrd-python 
binding, I am thinking about working with top in Linux, because of its 
realtime capabilities, but atlast I  am stuck. I cannot quite figure out 
how to get started, or if I am even on the right track. I am doing all 
this as background research before I continue on to Cacti, so I need a 
problem that really lets me wrap my head around RRDtool and learn all 
that it has to offer.

Any pointers in the right direction or suggestions would be appreciated.
