sorry I confused you :-), you were right anyway.

Thanks for your response. I tried your suggestion, even before posting.
In my rrdtool version (1.0.41, running under Suse Linux kernel 2.2 or
so, on an old Sparc Classic recovered from a garbage container) it
doesn't work.

In the graph, the character ° is preceded by uppercase A with a caret on
top. See http://vega.demon.nl:8888 , graph titled Primary Circuit.
