I'd add to this, that we have issues with our machine which processes
~ 2000 rrd files every 5 mins. The issue is the machine stalls for a
very noticeable amount of time sometimes up to 30+ seconds where
no interaction is possible.

I've raised this issue with the FreeBSD performance guys and will
report back if I find the cause.

N.B. Tested FreeBSD 6.2 and 7.0 both exhibit the same behaviour.
Machine is not small with a 8 disk raid 6 array and dual AMD 248
CPU's with 2GB ram. OS tools so no swap usage.
