check whether your device supports SNMPv2 or not -

try:
  snmpbulkwalk -v2c -c <community> <ip address> | grep Counter64

if there is no output matching your In/Out-Octets, SNMPv2 isn't supported
and you'll have to poll more frequent than once a minute...
