[rrd-users] configure: checking gettext's version failing

Hey all.

I'm trying to compile rrdtool 1.3.7 on a Sun box running Sol9. Running
./configure is generating an error when trying to check gettext's version
(the --version option doesn't seem to exist any longer):

checking for msgfmt... (cached) /usr/bin/msgfmt
/usr/bin/xgettext: illegal option -- -
/usr/bin/xgettext: illegal option -- v
/usr/bin/xgettext: illegal option -- e
/usr/bin/xgettext: illegal option -- r
/usr/bin/xgettext: illegal option -- i
/usr/bin/xgettext: illegal option -- o
Usage: xgettext [-a [-x exclude-file]] [-jns][-c comment-tag]
        [-d default-domain] [-m prefix] [-M suffix] [-p pathname] files ...
        xgettext -h
ERROR: Cannot open file --version.
configure: error: GNU gettext tools not found; required for intltool

Gettext 0.17 is installed. I also tried installing a pre-packaged version
(0.14.1) with the same results.
Any ideas on workarounds?

Thanks
