Which would then be the versions in Ubuntu Maverick which seem to be
along the lines of

ii  libpango1.0-0                        1.28.2-0ubuntu1.1

ii  libcairo2                            1.10.0-1ubuntu3
The Cairo 2D vector graphics library

Are you familiar with there being an issue with those and what
OpenOffice can insert, or is that just a plain redirect?
