Steve,

Some minutes before you dropped me this message I installed the
Term::ReadKey, because I noticed that was the problem.

...but even after I've done that...

I ran

perl rrd_merger.pl --oldrrd=alpine_3804_traffic_in_208.rrd
--newrrd=bd_8810_traffic_in_261.rrd

...and the result was ZERO lenght files generated...

alpine_3804_traffic_in_208.rrd

alpine_3804_traffic_in_208.rrd_old_20978.xml

bd_8810_traffic_in_261.rrd_new_20978.xml
