Hi for all, This is my first e-mail for this list, but I sign this list a long time ago, only now I use RRDTool in professional case ! I have questions about DS and RRA, I read all DOC's about RRDTool and I find more informations about DS and RRA and found this mail of Dennis: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I am new to RRDTool (I've been an MRTG user) and I need some help. If I use the following command line (and update the RRD every minute): rrdtool create file.rrd --step 60 DS:Load:GAUGE:120:0:255 RRA:MAX:0.5:1:720 (RRA #1) RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:1:720 (RRA #2) RRA:MAX:0.5:60:168 (RRA #3) RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:60:168 (RRA #4) RRA:MAX:0.5:1440:180 (RRA #5) RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:1440:180 (RRA #6) The following should be true: RRA #1 will record a MAX value every minute and store it for 12 hours RRA #2 will record an AVG value every minute and store it for 12 hours RRA #3 will record a MAX value every hour and store it for 7 days RRA #4 will record an AVG value every hour and store it for 7 days RRA #5 will record a MAX value every day and store it for 180 days RRA #6 will record an AVG value every day and store it for 180 days .... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- My questions about this: 1 - Why to keep 3 RRA's (3 for MAX and 3 for AVERAGE) for the same data ? 2 - Why to keep values for 12 hours, 7 days and 180 days, only 180 days is not suficient ? I read rrdtutorial.html (A Real World Example) but I don't understand :^( In this example (A Real World Example), I found 8 RRA's (4 for AVERAGE and 4 for MAX), why is necessary ? I'm sorry by this questions, but I really understand this !!! Thank's for any answer :°) No more. -- ********Generated by fortune********* O amor e apenas um truque sujo em que a natureza nos faz cair para assegurar a continuacao da especie. -- W.
