hmm you could try to produce a 'test case' ... my smoeking daemon
has been running fine since sept 29 and it is tracking a bunch of
adsl connected hosts which go on and off all the time ... I can not
find the problem here ... if you look at the code you will not find
any exit or die commnds in the daemon code ...

you might want to run smoekping without forking ....
smokeping --nodemon

and see if it outputs anything sensible before dying ...
