make sure your apache user has write permissions where you want it to
store the images.  you might also want to change the imgcache
directory to somthing other than where your smokeping proccess id is
stored

from my config file:

owner    = joshua sahala
contact  = jsahala at fusiontel.com
#mailhost = smtp.mailhost.abc
sendmail = /usr/lib/sendmail
imgcache = /var/www/sites/smokeping/graphs
imgurl   = graphs
datadir  = /usr/local/smokeping/data
piddir  = /usr/local/smokeping/var
