[smokeping-users] how to get alerts working

I need some better ideas on how to get the alerts going with smokeping.
The documentation is a little vague.
Basically I want to be e-mailed when any of my hosts that are monitored by
smokeping is down (ie total packetloss).
How do I configure this?
