You should see s.th. like

/home/nipper# smokeping --restart
### fping seems to report in 1 miliseconds
### assuming you are using an fping6 copy reporting in miliseconds
Note: logging to syslog as local0/info.
Daemonizing /usr/local/bin/smokeping ...

And syslog (iff you have syslog enabled) tells you:

Feb  3 01:26:27 smokeping[1360]: Launched successfully
Feb  3 01:26:27 smokeping[1360]: FPing: probing 186 targets
Feb  3 01:26:27 smokeping[1360]: FPing6: probing 27 targets


Did you define probes in your configuration?
