I dont think this is excessive at all - I have the default step/ping
values (300/20) and 143 targets. If my understanding of the parameters
is correct, your figures turn into 760 ping packets per minute, and mine
into 572 pings per minute. Neither sounds like its going to stretch the
CPU or network card (or disk for that matter).
