Take a look at my rudamentary init in this rpm package and let us know
if your have any improvements.

The rpm was built on Valhalla (rh7.3) but I've had it running on Shrike
(rh9) for many months without issue. It also ensures you have the proper
dependencies.

Requires:	perl >= 5.6.1
Requires:	rrdtool >= 1.0.33-1gk2
Requires:	fping >= 2.4b2
Requires:	echoping >= 4.2.0
Requires:	webserver
Requires:	net-tools
Requires:	perl(Net::SMTP)
Requires:	perl-PersistentPerl
