Have others found things faster without speedy? In my experience,
speedy increases the speed of the SmokePing pages a lot. I think I
ran some numbers at one point, but I'm not sure where they are at. I
especially notice the difference when I'm expanding a Level 1 menu to
just show the corresponding nested Level 2 menu (so, no graphs are
being rendered). With speedy it's instantaneous. With "normal Perl
CGI", it takes several seconds per click.

Also, doesn't running without speedy require the configuration file to
be parsed every time the HTML page *or* an image is displayed?
Assuming I have this right, it could explain the difference... folks
with large config files would see things a lot faster with speedy.

For me, I have one server where I don't use speedy because:
1) I couldn't get a build of speedy to work for that flavor of Unix
2) The smokeping configuration is small and doesn't tax the system
3) The box has a big enough CPU that it performs well with normal Perl

However, I have another system that runs on an older Sparc and speedy
makes a very noticeable difference, presumably because:
1) The smokeing config is much larger (more nodes)
2) Although the system has tons of RAM and good disk IO, the CPU is
pretty limited compared to modern Intel boxes.

I would be interested in the results different people have come up with.

Thanks,
Kennedy
