[smokeping-users] nss_ldap smokeping problem - fping polling taking too long problem

I think I see the problem with fping taking so long. It does not seem to be multithreaded so a host not responding holds up the entire process.

Am I correct? Anyone know of another solution. I want to be able to send 5 pings to 500 hosts with growth of about 3000 per poller.

Anyone have any hints on how to take care of these two problems?

Subject: [smokeping-users] nss_ldap smokeping problem - fping polling taking too long problem

I have two problems I can't seem to resolve.

A) I use LDAP for user, group, shadow lookups and for some reason the only application that has issues is the smokeping web interface. If I use speedy or just straight perl I get a message saying unable to find to LDAP server and eventually after nss_ldap marks the server as unavailable the web interface works. I run many other perl applications without these issues so I was wondering if anyone had any idea why this might be occurring. Any other application using nssswitch (finger) does not have any issues.

B) The other problem is with fping taking too long to poll. I have attempted to tweak the settings to allow fping to return in a timely manner but with no avail. The server that is running smokeping has no problems with memory or CPU but fping takes more than 60 seconds to send 5 pings to 600 targets. I have the hostinterval set to 0.01 and the timeout set to 0.300. Any help?
