[smokeping-users] Charts problem "unknown variable 'sorter'"

The problem I am reporting is consistent between revision 2.4.2 and trunk
20110123 and is most likely a configuration error that I simply haven't been
able to resolve.

Taking a working configuration and adding in the 'charts' section per the
documentation results in the following error when checking the config file
or starting smokeping

ERROR: etc/config, line 152: unknown variable 'sorter'

Any help would be appreciated.
